Merry Christmas

7th November 2019

“Merry Christmas!” “It’s the most wonderful time of the year!” – but what if it isn’t going to be merry or wonderful for you? When times are hard it can be even more discouraging to see all the adverts for goods that you know you cannot afford, and if you have children this is felt even harder. Now imagine that you can’t even afford to buy “ordinary” food…

At Pembrokeshire Foodbank we seek to help anyone in the County who might be in this situation, through no fault of their own, by giving some of the nicer food items that are currently for sale everywhere in the shops, along with other food. We seek referrals from agencies such as Children’s Services, GP Surgeries, Social Workers, Housing Associations, Churches and multiple others who are seeing this need on a daily basis. From these referrals we provide Christmas “Gift-bags” for all those who would benefit, and also some ordinary food for those who require it.

We cannot do this without the generous donations of the wonderful people of Pembrokeshire, who routinely donate food, time or money. Currently we are based in 4 Community Cafe style venues across the County, and we collect from numerous places, but especially via the collection baskets in Tesco stores.

On the 21st, 22nd & 23rd November Tesco, in conjunction with the Trussell Trust, are hosting “The Big Collection” for Pembrokeshire Foodbank. During these 3 days at both Haverfordwest & Pembroke Dock stores you will be able to help us in a big way by donating Christmas food or money (for us to purchase any necessary items). Don’t worry, we will have shopping lists on hand for you to choose one or two items, but we are extremely grateful for any donations we receive.

There are also many other donation baskets where you can donate: St David’s Cathedral, St Mary’s Newport, Bloomfield Centre Narberth, County Hall Haverfordwest, and the Foodbank Centres. Please see our website and Facebook page for more details.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas, filled with joy and cheer.
